Eastern Bluebird

This is "Eastern Bluebird".

I was in the mood to watercolour for today's Inspiration Challenge, so thought I would do this bird to complete my "bird wall" of bird related photos. The picture is 5.0 x 5.0 for a 8 x 8 frame, the rest is matting.
For my colours I used Daniel Smith watercolours as follows: Transparent Pyrrol Orange, Organic Vermillion, Neutral Tint, Green Apatite Genuine, Serpentine Genuine, Phthalo Blue (blue/red), Prussian Blue, Cerulean Blue, Cobalt Blue, Raw Umber, Indian Red, Burnt Sienna and Goethite.

The bird I bought from Etsy. I was drawn to the shape of the bird, so cute.
Initially I started to watercolour using Phthalo Blue (green shade), but the colour was not right for my liking, hence I changed it to the Phthalo Blue (red shade).

Rather than painting the lower breast the white shades I went for light shades of blue, which I probably should have made lighter. Toward the end I added in Phthalo Green (yellow shade) for that bit of lighter green, which I think added to the overall look of the painting.

For this watercolour I am painting on Arches cold press watercolour paper, my go to paper, especially for painting for my art wall. I have used Fabriano Hot Press previously, which I do love, but not when it comes to my Art Wall for some reason!Thank you for visiting with me today. I hope you have enjoyed this painting.

See you next time.
