Hello Celebrate

It's time for the Inspiration Challenge at Splitcoaststampers. I found this flower and took note of the beautiful orange along with the dark green background. That would be another challenge, making the dark green work.

But first, the basics. I am using Arches 140lb. cold press watercolour paper for my flower, which is from Pinkfresh Studios. For the background I used Bristol paper for the stencilling.

To do the stencil piece, I first applied the distress paste matte using the Picket Fence stencil and my palette knife, not covering the whole stencil. While the paste was drying I made up a mixture of Daniel Smith Cascade Green in full strength and adding it a a mixture of Perfect Pearls in Confetti White, then sprayed the dry stencil piece.

Before drying the piece I added splatters to the background using Undersea Green watercolour, which is what I used for the floral leaves.

I set the stencil piece aside to dry. In my mini Misti I stamped the floral image using Wendy Vecchi Make Art Buttercup ink. This ink blends away as I watercolour the leaves and flower.

I am mixing Quinacridone Rose with Hansa Yellow to make my orange colour, and using the colours separately as well. The Quinacridone Rose is also on the leaves. The Undersea Green has a wonderful granulation which shows up a bit, but on longer leaves would look fabulous.

I added the green in the flower centre for interest, then ran the flower through my Gemini Jr. with the coordinating die. To give the flower movement I styled it using my stylist tools.

Again using my Gemini Jr. I die cut the hello sentiment from Arches watercolour paper and painted with both the Cascade Green and the Undersea Green.

To finish up my card I attached foam tape to the back of my stencil piece and affixed it to a Gina K Design yellow card base. I then attached the flower, using foam squares, along with the hello sentiment using Nuvo Adhesive.

To finish I added Limoncello Jewel Drops scattered around the card as well as one on the card.

  1. What a warm, beautiful colour palette. It instantly makes me think of those beguilingly lovely days when summer begins to meld into fall.
