Poinsettia Christmas

Time for our watercolour challenge at Splitcoaststampers. On a lighter note today we are doing Watercolour Powder Resist. The video for this technique you can find here.

I am using Nuvo Shimmer Powder. Despite all the colours seen in the Christmas card I made above, I used only one powder, called Catherine Wheel.

Starting from the beginning I first cut a piece of the Bristol paper to 6x6 and placed it in my original Misti. I prepped the paper with my embossing tool and added VersaMark embossing ink to the stamp, making sure to cover the area and stamped.

I added the Brutus Monroe gold embossing powder to the card, again being sure to cover all before removing the excess, then using my heat gun heat embossed the panel.

To add the powder I first wet the piece liberally, then sprinkled with the powder, tapping on the bottom of the bottle. This gives more control over the amount of powder released. I then added even more water spreading the powder as I sprayed.

Using my water brush I picked up the colours, adding it to places I felt needed additional colour.

I then set the piece aside to dry thoroughly. Once it was dry I dusted the card with a glitter cloth to pick up any excess powder. Trust me, I have learned the hard way to make sure I have all that powder removed before cutting my piece.

I cut the piece to 4 x 5.25, then added foam tape to the back and attached to my card base. Again, the ink even though dry, will mark your surface, so be sure to use the cloth and use a paper towel on your work surface when you flip it over.

I then die cut the frame from the Tonic cardstock and attached it to my card panel using Nuvo Adhesive.

For the sentiment I cut the Merry Christmas from red glitter card. I then cut 2 pieces from Neenah 110lb card and coloured them with a red Copic marker and glued all of them together and attached with Nuvo Adhesive.

I hope you have enjoyed today's card as much as I enjoyed making it. Following are Affiliate links for the products that I have used, at no extra cost to you.
