Floral thanks

Saturday, 30 December 2017

I think all the bitter cold and snow has me longing for spring, which is unusual for me as I do enjoy the winter.

So today's card is made with whole lot of wishful thinking. This stamp set is new to me sort of. I have had it for several months now, but have only now had the opportunity to play with it. I love this flower from the set and decided I would make this my focal.

I began my background by first stamping the stem using Altenew ink Lagoon and heat set, then did the watercolour background using Altenew Inks Volcano Lake and distress ink Shabby Shutters. While it was drying I stamped the flower, also using watercolour paper with Altenew ink in Coral Berry. I heat set the ink so I could watercolour, using the berry and distress inks in worn lipstick with a touch of festive berries. I went back to the stem and using Tim Holtz Distress markers added some shabby shutters and a bit of cracked pistachio. I then splattered using Daniel Smith Phthalo Green full strength along with some watered down. I stamped the sentiment using Altenew Lagoon and attached the panel to my card base with foam tape. I die cut and styled the flower slightly before attaching with foam dots. And, yes, a few sequins finished my card.

Thanks so much for visiting and thank you for all your support through 2017.

I think I could play for hours with alcohol inks and be in continuous amazement at how they react and the richness of the colours. If you have alcohol ink and glossy paper or Yupo, a beautiful card can be made.

When I did this card my friend was over for coffee and I was just dropping colours as we chatted. She was amazed at how the inks worked. I continued on and made this card, and my friend left with it. Ha ha,  nothing ever gets left behind for long.

I used my deckled rectangle die to cut the piece, and added the star cut in silver glitter, along with the Faith sentiment, cut 3 times and stacked. I had the snowflake on my table, so I used it as well.

I hope everyone has had a wonderful Christmas and send wishes to all for a Healthy and Happy New Year.

Sleeping Beauty

Monday, 25 December 2017

Merry Christmas everyone!

I have this sweet little hedgehog to share with you today which I did as my sample for the Clean and Simple Challenge at Splitcoaststampers called "Not a Creature was Stirring".

For my card ... I kept it white except for the pops of colour on the image and for the sentiment. This little fellow is exhausted after all the fun in the snow and is catching a nap!

I die cute the circle first and was going to stamp some birch trees, but I did not like that look, so I opted for white die cut birch trees which I attached on foam dots, as is the circle. I cut down one of the trees so the branches would flow in to my circle. I stamped the hedgehog and coloured with Zig Brushes then ran him through my ScanNCut to cut out, then propped him up on the circle, also with foam dots. I stamped the sentiment, then added a few sequins to finish.

I hope you enjoy this card and thank you for visiting today.

Merry Christmas everyone!

You are so kind

Saturday, 23 December 2017

It is time for a few thank you cards, and as it was snowing here this morning, it was the perfect morning to pull up a chair and footstool to my sliding doors, colour and watch the snow fall.

First I heat embossed my image using black embossing powder on watercolour paper. I did not have a plan when I started to paint, so I added the colour where I thought it would look nice, and would be a happy card. Once I was finished painting, I die cut the panel with the stitched rectangle die and attached it to the black card base. I then stamped the sentiment using the festive berries ink and heat embossed with clear embossing powder and attached to my panel using foam dots. The sentiment "are so kind" was stamped with the cobalt ink and die cut with the fishtail label. And, I scattered with sequins and a few crystals to finish.

Here is a close up of the finished card.
Thank you for dropping by ... I will see you next time.

Noel Ornament

Thursday, 21 December 2017

I love the look of ornaments done with alcohol ink, especially using the reds as I have done here. I previously made this card with a red ornament, so I had to make this a bit different, which I attached directly to my card base on foam tape. I added the village, which is coloured with gold Wink of Stella, and changed the ornament cap from glitter to metallic, and this time I did not add the bow. In the background I stencilled on falling snow with embossing paste and changed up the sentiment, finishing with sequins.

Joyful Snowflakes

Wednesday, 20 December 2017

Now that I have handed out these cards I can share them with you.

To start this card I first die cut a panel of watercolour paper using my wonky rectangles. As I want to get more mileage from my embossing folders, and even though this is a 6x6 folder, I embossed only part of my card panel, then did a wash over the embossed area. While that was drying I heat embossed using black embossing powder the Joy sentiment, and yes I measured this before I started the card to ensure I would have just enough room for my sentiment. I  cut a narrow piece of silver glitter cardstock and attached where the watercolour and embossing ended, then attached the panel on foam tape to my card base. Previously I embossed pieces of both watercolour paper and cardstock to use for die cutting. This snowflake is one of those pieces in the watercolour paper. A few sequins finished my card.

Thank you for visiting ... see you next time.

Christmas Village

Monday, 18 December 2017

A little village buried in snow, something like we were last week! Getting a few last minute cards done today and tomorrow, and that will be it for me.

I fell in love with the Hero Arts Mini Kit from October called North Pole, but alas it sold out before I could blink so I opted to get one of the accessory kits, and these images are from that set.

I wanted to use a tall narrow panel, so opted to use my deckle rectangle. I stamped the Church in black, and the trees in green, using masking to overlap, then coloured with Zig Brushes. I die cut the snow mounds, stamped my sentiment in blue and added some Nuvo Crystals for snow drops. A fun card to make.

Getting those last minute Christmas cards done today. I had yet to use this green glitter cardstock, or the green metallic cardstock, so they were combined for this card.

The background is die cut with the wonky rectangle die and embossed with my snow drops embossing folder. I die cut another piece using the rectangles as well as a landscape die for the snow and a place to stamp my sentiment. It is attached on foam tape, and the die cut tree tucked slightly behind. I finished with a few sequins. A very quick yet pretty card.

Thanks for visiting today.

This is a good-bye flip book that I did for a friend. Her boss (Property Manager) is leaving the company after many years, and as there are too many signatures from employees for a card, my friend had them write their thoughts on paper that could be included in this flip book. Such a nice idea.

I used Neenah 110lb card stock for the cover, buildings and sentiment so it will stand up to the handling. To start, I stencilled the Sunray with Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide ink to get that look only Oxides can produce.

For my buildings I used Frantic Stamper's Cityscape die and cut the rows so their positions would stagger. I coloured the middle row using my distress marker in the Cracked Pistachio Distress, adding a few layers to achieve more depth of colour.  I coloured the windows with my Zig Brush in a bright yellow.

To put the cover together, I attached the back row directly to the cover. For the middle row I added foam tape, and for the front row I added two layers of foam tape. Doing this created shadows from the other buildings ... much like what happens in large cities.

We decided we did not want the standard good-bye, so we opted to use this "Cheers" sentiment die, which I also sponged with the same colour, along with adding some Wink of Stella, which does not show in the picture. A few sequins completed the cover. I punched the holes to match the coil and put the flip book together, adding heavy card stock to the back. I so wanted to add "The End", but my friend said no. She's no fun ~ 😉

Tweet Holiday Wishes

Saturday, 9 December 2017

I needed to do a Christmas card for my bird's veterinarian, and I could not resist painting up this stamp image from Your Next Stamp. They are too cute with their Santa Hats.

I first die cut my panel with the wonky rectangles and the arch dies, then stamped my sentiment in the paradise teal. I aligned the panel to my base so I could mask the area I wanted the stencil the snow in. Once dry I attached the panel on foam tape.

For the birds, I stamped using intense black ink and water coloured using Zig Clean Colour Brushes, adding Wink of Stella to the hat, then die cut the piece with the matching die and attached inside the arch on foam dots and finished with a few clear sequins.

Thank you very much for visiting today.

Jolly Santa

Monday, 4 December 2017

Santa is excited .... he will be visiting us soon!

This is my sample for the Clean and Simple challenge at Splitcoaststampers today, which is to use zigzags on your cards. I first die cut my panel piece using deckled rectangles, then embossed with with the zigzag embossing folder to meet the challenge, but turned it for a change and propped it up on foam tape. Santa is stamped on watercolour paper and painted with Zig brushes, and attached on foam dots. I die cut the be jolly sentiment in silver glitter cardstock, and added the star, which was already on my desk from another project. A few sequins finished my card for today.

Thanks very much for visiting ... see you next time.

A card similar but different from the card that I did for Iliana earlier this week. I like every card I do to be unique. I was asked how I did the card, so today at the end of this post I am also including a video for those who are interested.
Here is a close-up of this card detailing the sparkle and the layers of colour.
The background panel is a stencil mono-print. I have a link for this technique in my Awesome Tutorials section above. I used watercolour paper for the background and the poinsettia, which I did by laying down layers of colour. In order to do this technique a Misti is a must and you will see why in the video.

Thank you for visiting today. I hope you enjoy the video. Being new to doing them I can say I have much to learn, and I appreciate your support.

Be Jolly

Saturday, 2 December 2017

At art class on Wednesday past we did this scene in a larger version. I so wanted to do a card, and today is the day.

I used my Mini Misti and magnets to hold my watercolour paper while I painted. It makes it so easy and no messing around with tape. Once dry I die cut the finished piece with my sentiment and the Wonky Border Rectangle die.

I painted the scene using a mix of Daniel Smith and Schminke watercolours, doing the night sky first. I covered up the penguins to splatter the acrylic paint on the night sky, then finished painting the scene.

I think it is so cute .... and am truly grateful for my wonderful teacher Colleen.

And a reminder that the sale continues at My Sweet Petunia.

Hug from the inside

Wednesday, 29 November 2017

There is nothing like a hot chocolate to warm the soul, and being rather chilly today, I think I will make some.

I used the new 6x6 Snowflake rubber stamp by Frantic Stamper for my background and matted with the blue card stock. I then added the Snowflake Border die along with the Cup of Cocoa that I attached on foam dots. I stamped the sentiment from the Hot Cocoa Sentiments stamp set with a few sequins to finish.

Now it is time for cocoa! Thank you for visiting.

Birthday Gift Set

Tuesday, 28 November 2017

I am up on My Sweet Petunia's blog today with this gift set that I made for my friend's December birthday. And, there is a video showing my process as well, which I will link to at the end of this process.

I wanted to make Sue something special for her birthday, so I decided to make a matching set for her. I painted the card and box on Fabriano Hot Press Watercolour Paper, which was folded into a 6x6 card, then mid way through, changed my mind and decided I wanted a blue base, therefore I needed a blue box bottom. The key to making the box is having the lid a bit bigger than the bottom, so it will fit snugly inside.

Here are some close-ups, the card
and the box.
On the My Sweet Petunia blog I also have pictures of the process and a little tutorial.

And the video

Peace over a Winter Village

Monday, 27 November 2017

This is Peace over a Winter Village.

This little winter village die is part of the Christmas and Winter release at Frantic Stamper.

To start this card I first die cut the background panel using card stock then sponged on the Tim Holtz Distress inks until I was happy with the colour combinations. I then flicked on droplets of water and let sit for a few before drying with a paper towel. I finished by stamping the sentiment Peace, which is from the Joy and Peace stamp set.

For the village, I die cut using watercolour paper,  and coloured with my Zig brushes, painting different parts of the village to ensure no running of colour. For extra dimension I attached the village to my card base on foam tape, and that was it. Nothing more needed to finish this card.

Celebrate Your Unique Talent Hop

Friday, 24 November 2017

Hello everyone.
Did you know that today, November 24, 2017 is "Celebrate Your Unique Talent Day". I hope you will have some time to visit with the team from My Sweet Petunia, better known as MISTI, to see what we have done for this day.

It is and has been a joy for me to be on this team. It is  "unique" from other teams in that we "travel" with the products and our MISTI's and share our ideas with all of you.

There is one person who has made this possible, and today I would like to celebrate her. You probably know her, she is the Uniquely Talented Creative Inventor of the MISTI, as well as the Creative Corners, Iliana Myska. If not for Iliana, I would not be a stamper. I was very lucky to meet Iliana at the Creativation Show back in January 2017. Did you know Iliana has been in to paper crafting since 2001?  She has a lot of experience in this industry. She is a wife, mother, card-maker, does scrap-booking and now an inventor - wow!

Iliana has worked very hard to bring this incredible tool to market, and it has been a long and sometimes difficult process, but she prevailed through it all. And it has not always been fun.

This makes Iliana "Unique".

I would like to honour Iliana today with this card I made just for her. My plan was to make a Unique card, one that Iliana will be able to keep up through the holiday season.

Prizes ... yes we will have prizes too!  We will give away winner's choice of an original or mini MISTI, drawn from everyone who comments on every stop of the hop. The deadline for commenting is Monday, November 27th at 12 noon CT.

Here are the pictures of my process and my final card.
I started by first doing the stencil portion of my card. I
wanted to create a winter look to this card, even giving
it a frosty appearance. I first rubbed on Nuvo Mouse in Cornflour Blue, then added Viva Decor Inka Gold in
Steelblue. I flicked on some white acrylic paint and added Nuvo Crystal Jewels as well.
I then started on my flower using only one colour of Tim Holtz Distress Ink in Salty Ocean.
I am building the colour here. Inking the edges of the stamp and lightly dragging across the stamp before stamping. It is all done via dry stamping. This is where the Misti is a must have. I have already done at least 15 passes at this point. I continued this process until I was happy with the look, then ran the image through my ScanNCut, as I do not have a die for this image and placed it back in my Misti along with the negative.
To my white work surface I added a dab of White Opal Liquid Pearls and  a dab of Ice Stickles. I dipped my stencil brush in the liquid pearls swirling to add to the bristles then pounced very lightly on my flower. I did the same with the ice Stickles. I did the same with my stencilled panel. A special card deserves a special card base, so I attached my panel to a blue metallic card base. I styled my flower then attached the poinsettia on dimensionals.
For my sentiment I stamped the "you" using the Salty Ocean and made several passes to ensure the colour was deep. I then ran this through my ScanNCut, as once again I did not have the die.
I then stamped the rest of the sentiment using Chipped Sapphire Distress Ink, and finished off my card with stickles on the grapes, along with adding a single die cut leaf in silver glitter card stock. I added sequins and pearls to the centre and added in the tiny leaf that I had cut off from the bottom of the card.
A close up showing the sparkle.
As this is for Iliana I will finish the inside and pop it in the mail. I hope she enjoys this card and all the cards done in her honour today.

There is a store-wide sale on at My Sweet Petunia with 20% off, calculated at check-out, until Saturday, December 2nd, 2017.

Ivy and Berries Christmas

Wednesday, 22 November 2017

I have had this stamp set on my desk to remind me to make a Christmas card with the ivy and berries. It ended up being a quick card to make, and I quite like it. I had the ivy stamp in the middle of my Misti lid and just kept moving the paper to do the stamping, then did the same with the berries stamp, leaving the sentiment area clean for the sentiment, which I stamped in black. I die cut the panel using the wonky stitched rectangles and attached to the base with foam tape, then stamped and die cut another of the ivy and attached it to the panel on a foam dot. It doesn't get much easier than that.

The Joy of Left-Overs

Tuesday, 21 November 2017

I had an odd shaped piece of Yupo left-over from who knows when. Not only was it an odd shape, it was rather small, and of no use for a background. So, ink it up and see what happens ... the result was these two cards, both made from left-overs.
For the card above I die cut the bauble from the left-over and attached to the panel on foam dots. The bow was also cut from a left-over piece of gold glitter cardstock. This panel was on my desk so I placed it in my MISTI and stamped and heat embossed in gold the sentiment, then added a few sequins to finish.

Then, I started this card:
Along with the above bauble, I also managed to get this Candy Cane and Joy sentiment cut from the left over. I had the piece of dry embossed cardstock that was also on my desk just begging to be used, and it was perfect for my Candy Cane which I attached using foam dots, and also added the sentiment. All this card needed was a few of the pink dew drops that I added to the Candy Cane, and that finished this card.

I just love it when cards come together as easily as these did and I hope you enjoy them.
