Yesterday I spent most of the day making cards for future releases. When I decided to call it a day, I had a blank piece of Arches watercolour paper looking back at me. It was like it was saying, you are going to leave me empty?
Not, I could not do that! I had my watercolour palettes open anyway, so opted to do a piece of Abstract Art in watercolour. I see a lot done in acrylic, but I wanted it done in watercolour.
I have a paint brush that I bought several years ago from Terry Harrison (Artist) which is called a Comb, or Rake brush. It is this brush that I have used for all but the black and green elements. I used Daniel Smith watercolours in Hansa Yellow Medium, Pyrrol Scarlett, Pyrrol Red, along with a mixture of Hansa Yellow and Hooker's Green for the Green colour. The white is Dr Ph Martin's Bleed Proof White.
When I finished painting with the colours I went back in and added the white using the Comb brush again. Once all was dry, using my round #8 brush I added the green colour.
I then added the black lines using a Nuvo Brush Script Pen in Black. Unfortunately Nuvo does not make this pen any longer, but any brush top non waterproof brush pen/marker would work. The pen is not waterproof, which is why I wanted to use it. I knew once I spritzed my card with my mix of gold perfect pearls and water, the black ink would feather out, assuming I sprayed from above, not the side.
I allowed the panel to dry naturally, then ran it through my Gemini Jr. with my "Hi" die. I then die cut 4 black "hi" cuts for the dimensional sentiment.
The panel is attached to a Gina K Design black card base. I then glued in the pieces from the cut die for the negative sections, then glued together the 4 black cuts and glued them together with Nuvo adhesive, topping with the patterned cut.
To finish I added a few small gumdrops for more texture. This was a lot of fun to make, and I think I will do more in the future. I love to change it up a bit, and I hope you have enjoyed it as well.
