This little birdie makes me smile big! I received the set from a friend for my birthday this past week, which is Little Birdies by Dina Wakley for Ranger. There are several birds in the set, and already I have two favourites, this being one.

The inspiration challenge at Splitcoaststampers today has taken us to Children's Illustrated Pinterest page, where there are the drawings from the artists for the books. They are so whimsical and sweet.

I picked this illustration for my inspiration. Using my mini Misti I started by stamping on Fabriano Hot Press watercolour paper using VersaFine Clair ink in Nocturne. I then watercoloured my bird using the same colours, being Daniel Smith Cadmium Yellow and Schmincke May Green. For the beak I added in Winsor Newton Orange Red Shade.

Once the bird was dry I fussy cut her out, and used my Fiskars blade to do between the legs and set her aside.

Included in the set is a coordinating stencil of leaves, which is what I am using for my background.

For the background, using Arches Cold Press Watercolour paper I placed the stencil over the paper and added water with a damp sponge being sure to not add a lot of water as I did not want it running under the stencil. You can tell by the feel of the sponge that it is not loaded.

In my palette dish I prepared the colours, using the same colours again, and with the sponge picked up the colours applying to the stencil as I went, not covering the whole area. I then added the yellow to opposite corners, using a lot of pigment.

Once finished I added green and orange splatters with my #4 paint brush, let that dry then in my mini Misti I stamped the bird and sentiment using the VersaFine Clair Ink.

I cut the matting paper and attached it to my Ivory card base on an angle. I then attached the bird panel and styled the bird and attached to the card using foam squares, then finished off with some pretty gems.

This was certainly a fun card to make today, and I hope you have enjoyed it. I thank you for visiting my blog.
