Poppy Happiness

I had my alcohol inks out to make some backgrounds earlier today, and this is one that I made using Yupo and Alcohol Inks in Lettuce, Citrus, Limeade, Peach Belini and Valencia, used for the inside of the poppies.
While the background was still damp I added some art deco gold foil which you can see in the picture below. As I did not have the correct colour for matting my piece, I coloured a piece of Neenah card stock with my Copic Marker using YG17 and doing several passes to deepen the colour. I then attached the Yupo piece to the matting and attached both to my card base.

Before I ever start to make my Alcohol Ink backgrounds, I decide on the framing of the piece. It just makes it easier, otherwise I use parchment paper to ensure the ink does not transfer to my die.
I also made a separate piece of Yupo for the flowers using the Valencia ink and die cut, keeping the negative pieces. I die cut the poppies 4 times and glued down the first layer of the poppies, then painted with the glossy glaze, somehow managing to keep it off the rim of the poppies. I then glued on the other 3 pieces of the poppy frames, and 2 layers for the leaf.
You can see the depth of the dies in this picture and the shine from the glaze below.
This was such a fun technique to try and I thank the CAS Mix Up Challenge Group for this, which you can find here.

Thank you for joining me today.

  3. Gorgeous faux stained glass poppy card, Kia! I love the colors and the effect of the alcohol ink with a little glitz of gold foil in the background. The poppies look so shiny and pretty and the dimension is wonderful. The DIY deep green matte definitely gives a finishing look. Thanks so much for sharing this beauty at CAS Mix Up!
