Sweet Chirps

This is "Sweet Chirps".

When I saw this embossing folder by Altenew it was a must have and I bet you all know why! Anything birds is hard for me to resist.
I decided I would watercolour this so ran it through my Gemini Jr. along with watercolour paper. I am using Tim Holtz distress watercolour paper for a change, but not the textured side, the reverse side which is smoother. I think there is enough texture in the embossing.

For watercolours I used my Daniel Smith palette and painted with bright happy colours using colours like Hansa Yellow, Cadmium Yellow, Quinacridone Rose, Quinacridone Gold, Serpentine Genuine and Green Apatite Genuine. The birds have the yellows along with Mayan Red.
There are several other colours, being Phthalo Blue (Green Shade), Indian Red and Burnt Sienna on the branches, Burnt Umber and Jane's Grey. The background is done using Manganese Blue along with bits of Ultramarine Blue.

Once I was finished with the watercolour I added Nuvo Glitter pen to the birds and the centres of the flowers. As always it is hard to pick up, so I took a picture when it was wet, which follows.
You can see it on the birds head, and in the centre of the green flower above the birds. The flowers below the birds do not have the glitter yet, and you can see the difference there.

I was going to paint the eyes, but the folder depresses the eyes, and of course I wanted them differently, so I added blue gems instead.

This picture is shot from the same angle as the picture above shows the glitter pen once dry. You can see just specks of the sparkle on camera, but in real life it shows up perfectly.

To puff up the embossing after all the watercolour once dry I ran it through my Gemini Jr. again, to ensure the details of the folder showed nicely. I then trimmed the piece to 4x5.25 and attached it to a Neenah cardbase using foam tape and considered it done.

I hope you have enjoyed this card as much as I enjoyed the time it took to make it. Yes, a bit time consuming, but that is what card making is all about!
