Snowflakes

This is "Snowflakes".

And Snowflakes has been done for Watercolour Wednesday at Splitcoaststampers.com, where we watched this video for the challenge.
I did not have a lot of time as I had an appointment that took more time than expected. So I decided to do a small piece.

To paint I used Daniel Smith watercolours in Ultramarine Blue mixed with a small amount of Prussian Blue.
Using Arches cold press watercolour paper I taped my piece down. Using my #12 brush I wet down the surface, then applied the colour while holding the piece almost upright, so the colour would flow toward the bottom.

As taught in watercolour class, in order to not get a heavy line and to have the paints blend nicely I continued to hold the card and moved it up and down so the colour would flow to the top then down to bottom.
I did two layers for the background so I would have a nice amount of colour put down for the snowflakes.

I allowed my piece to dry naturally, then using white Gouache I painted on the three snowflakes, again adding two layers of paint.
Even with the two layers I think it could have used another layer of the gouache. But, instead I added splatters with a small paint brush. I have a thing with skies, when I do them they are calling our for snow splatters.

To finish up I added the piece to my card base using foam tape.

As per usual I mixed the gouache with perfect pearls confetti white.
